A city doctor had a miraculous escape after a corn laden truck overturned and fell on his car, leaving him stranded in the vehicle for over two hours near the IIM inter-section in Madiaon on Saturday afternoon. The victim, Dr Irfan, suffered severe injuries and was undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

The incident took place when the truck carrying around 255 quintals of corn from Kanpur was heading from Dubbaga intersection to a godown in Bakshi Ka Talab via IIM road around 1.30 pm.

Eyewitnesses said the truck driver lost control after his vehicle’s front tyre burst and overturned on the car parked on the roadside after hitting an e-rickshaw.

Rajesh Kumar, a local, said people initially rushed to help the e-rickshaw puller, Ilyas, who was severely injured after being hit by the truck. The passers-by later realised that the doctor was stuck inside the car.

He said many locals were familiar with Dr Irfan, who worked at a nearby medical college and stays in Eldeco Apartments on IIM road.

Dr Irfan, who also has a private clinic in Thakurganj, had stopped at a shop to purchase water bottles while returning home from there. The doctor was stuck in the car, as its roof was totally crushed. The truck was somehow clinging over the car, providing a space to the doctor to stay inside safely.

Kumar said people sought help from cops present at the nearby police outpost but they expressed inability in removing the truck. He said the cops got engaged in their mobile phones after suggesting to the public that a crane should be arranged to remove the truck. He said some people started arranging for a crane while others tried to remove the truck and put iron bars between the car and the truck to keep the doctor safe inside. Dr Irfan remained stuck inside till the crane reached the spot after two hours.

“The doctor had a miraculous escape due to his luck and locals’ efforts,” emphasised Kumar.

However, Inspector of Madiaon police station, Raghvan Kumar Singh feigned ignorance over negligence of cops. He said a police team was rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident and the crane was arranged with help of public to rescue the doctor.
