Over 20k kids get access to quality edu under RTE

-

LUCKNOW: Dinesh Kumar, a driver, recently shifted to Lucknow for better opportunities. Struggling to make ends meet in the state capital, he found it hard to ensure good education for his child. But today, his only son has been enrolled in a posh English medium school of the city in Gomti Nagar.

Thanks to Right to Education Act that ensured admission to his child in a school which was out of his reach till now.

Another Mohammad Abrish Faridi, a tailor, never wanted his child to lead a life like him. He wanted him to study in an English-medium school. Today, Abrish Faridi is a proud father as he goes to see his son off to a prominent city school every day.

Dinesh and Abrish are not the only ones. There are over 8,000 children coming from underprivileged backgrounds who are now part of city’s good English medium schools due to RTE. While the actual figures are still awaited, over 20,000 children from across the state have been enrolled under the RTE act in schools across UP.

Sharing the status of RTE admissions for the academic session, Samina Bano, RTE crusader said, “Around 32,000 online applications for admissions through RTE were filed across the state. Over 20,000 admissions have been done, even though the final compiled report from all districts is still awaited. Around 8,300 admissions were approved in the lottery in Lucknow alone.”

The figures are much higher as compared to those of last year. In the academic session for 2016-17, around 2,400 enrolments were done in Lucknow under the RTE. The overall admissions under the act across UP were around 17,000.

This year, the admission process under RTE was made online in UP. Offline applications were also filed. A lottery system was used for admissions.
