Shiksha mitras end stir on CM assurance

-

LUCKNOW: After having a dialogue with chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday, the agitating shiksha mitras called off their week-long stir and announced to resume their duty from Wednesday.

The chief minister did not give any written assurance to the protesting shiksha mitras. Instead, he assured them that the government will look into their matter.

There are 1.37 lakh siksha mitras who are contractual teachers. Many have launched sit-in protests at several places across the state. The government has asked them to have patience. It said that it was studying what could be done in the wake of the apex court ruling.

Thousands of affected siksha mitras have hit the street after the apex court quashed their assimilation. Violence has been reported from Etawah, Agra, Mainpuri, Farukkhabad, Meerut, Bijnore and Bareilly districts. Uttar Pradesh minister of state for basic education, Anupma Jaiswal, had earlier said while the government will implement the apex court order with immediate effect, its sympathies were with the siksha mitras.

Meanwhile in Lakhimpur Kheri, nearly 3000 shiksha mitr as, who had been agitating agai nst the Supreme Court’s decision cancelling their appointment as assistant teachers in government junior schools since July 26, called off their stir following the CM’s assurance. “After the negotiations between our state unit leaders and the UP chief minister and his assurance to resolve the issue, the ongoing agitation has been called off for 15 days,” said Sanjay Mishra, district president of shiksha mitras’ joint front.
