While the police are yet to nab his assailants, the 32-year-old medicine trader, Mukesh Mishra, who was shot at by unidentified persons in Janakipuram on July 28 midnight, succumbed to his injuries at KGMU’s trauma centre on Thursday morning.

Mishra’s condition was critical after sustaining the bullet injury in the head.

On July 28, some unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at him while he was returning home after closing his shop at 60-Feet road. He sustained another bullet in his right hand.

He was undergoing treatment at the trauma centre since then.

Additional superintendent of police (ASP), trans-Gomti, Harendra Kumar said the case of attempt to murder lodged by the victim’s elder brother, Karunesh Mishra would now be altered into the sections of murder.

He said the police was hopeful that Mishra would be able to record his statement as his condition improved on the second day, but unfortunately it could not be done.

He said Mishra’s death had posed as a new challenge before the police in tracing his killers.

The ASP said the initial probe hinted about some personal enmity behind the attack but victim’s three brothers, Karunesh, Rakesh and Ram Suman denied his enmity with anyone.

However, the police were still working over the lines of personal enmity and scanning call details of his mobile phone, he added.

He also said that there is also a possibility of loot angle in the incident, as the victim’s ATM card and ₹35,000 were found missing.

He said, the police were probing the matter on both the lines.
