As candidates took very few seats in private colleges during the first round of NEET-2017 counselling, the security money for the second round, slated on August 18, has been doubled. Now, the amount is ₹2 lakh.

Out of 2530 MBBS seats allotted to private colleges, only 153 (6%) candidates downloaded the enrolment letter mandatory to take admission.

While out of 2120 BDS seats, only 254 (12%) candidates downloaded the letter.

Seats were not being taken up by non-serious candidates therefore it was decided that only serious candidates should come up in the second round, said director general medical education, Dr KK Gupta.

Now, candidates will have to deposit ₹2 lakh before locking the seats of their choice during the counselling.

Besides, the government colleges are left with very few seats. Candidates will have to choose from 184 MBBS and 14 BDS seats in the government colleges in the second round of the counselling, online registrations for which will start from Sunday.

Candidates who participated in the first round of counselling but could not get a seat need not register themselves once again, even if they wish to take part in the second round, said Anita Bhatnagar Jain, additional chief secretary, medical education on Thursday.

After screening of documents the merit list will be declared on August 13 and the counselling will be done on August 18.

The result will be declared on August 19 while the selected candidates will have to report to college to take admission by August 21. The mop-up round and admission to MBBS seats in private colleges will be done on August 26 and 27.

The process for BDS seats in private medical college will be done in September first week as per the schedule to be announced by the central government.

In private colleges, 2397 MBBS and 1946 BDS seats are still vacant.

The details will be available on the websites upneet.gov.in and updgme.in.
