Details of army firing and shelling practice leaked, says ATS probe
LUCKNOW: The UP anti-terror squad’s probe has revealed that details of the firing and shelling practices of different army units were shared with foreign agents. The information leak happened via the office of the Jhansi sub divisional magistrate (SDM) .
However, sleuths are still to zero in on the person responsible for the leak. The army had shared the practice details with the SDM’s office and the police station of Jhansi Cantonment area.
A source from ATS said that online tracking of internet calls emerging from outside the country helped them ascertain that somebody from the SDM’s office was in touch with people operating from foreign countries, and had shared this sensitive detail with them. So far, five employees of the SDM’s office are under scanner, and their credentials are being looked into. “The ATS is checking their bank account details, as the informer would certainly have received money from unknown sources for this information,” he said.
In addition, computers, laptops and pen drives recovered from these suspects have also been seized and are being technically examined. “The mole will soon be identified and action will be taken on the basis of the evidence,” said the source.
Earlier, the ATS team had rushed to Jhansi after tracking internet calls originating from foreign countries that were being routed to the Jhansi SDM’s office.
YOUTH CRUSHED
A 27-year-old banking aspirant was crushed to death while another was critically injured when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle near Bangla Bazar Bridge at Ashiana here on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Janakipuram resident Arun Prakash Yadav, while the injured was his friend, Sachin Kumar Tewari, 26. The two were on their way to appear for a banking entrance test when they met with the accident. Yadav, the pillion rider, died on the spot after suffering a fatal head injury, and Tewari is undergoing treatment at a city hospital.
