‘Parents should observe kids’ injuries keenly’

-

LUCKNOW: All parents loved their kids but the majority was unaware of the reasons behind their injuries, said Prof Ajay Singh, while delivering a public awareness lecture here on Saturday to mark ‘World Bone and Joint Day.’

In the event held at King George’s Medical University, Prof Singh, who is senior faculty in the orthopaedic surgery department, explained about the types of injuries that hampered growth of a child if ignored. The lecture was attended by faculty members, medical staff and parents.

“The national crime record bureau says 22,766 kids died of injuries in 2006, which is an indicator of the poor knowledge of parents and society in general about injuries occurring to kids,” said Prof Singh.

He explained the types of injuries on various body parts such as neck, eyes, different bones and skull and also their impact on the body. “What is seen from the naked eyes may not be correct observation for injuries in kids hence it is advisable that parents should learn how to observe them and also be able to decide how fast they need a doctor,” he said.

Faculty members Prof Santosh Kumar, Prof Ashish Kumar, Prof GK Singh, Dr Kumar Shantanu and Prof RN Srivastava also shared their views on the topic.

“Children often do not share the intensity of their injuries out of fear. So a lot has to be decided by parents on the immovability also,” said Prof Singh.
