HISAR: Days after Haryana BJP chief’s son was accused of stalking the daughter of an IAS officer, another party leader from the state is in the news for wrong reasons.

A heart patient died allegedly after Fatehabad municipal council chief, Darshan Nagpal of the Bharatiya Janata Party, stopped an ambulance for more than 20 minutes after a minor accident on Sunday.

The victim’s family members are demanding action into the matter while Nagpal has denied the allegations against him.

Station house officer (SHO) of the City Police Station, Atma Ram, said police have called both the parties at the police station and started investigation into the matter. “The family members cremated the body on Sunday and gave complaint to the police on Monday. So, there is no postmortem report of the victim to know about the cause of death,” Atma Ram told HT over phone.

The victim’s brother Sitaram said, “My brother, Naveen, felt uneasiness on Sunday morning while sitting in his shop. We took him to a private hospital, where a doctor advised us to take him to a cardiologist.

“We were taking him to a heart specialist when the ambulance carrying him met with a minor accident with the car of pradhan (Nagpal) near Lal Batti Chowk. A spat ensued between the driver and Nagpal for compensation for more than 20 minutes. When we reached the hospital, the doctors declared Naveen dead.”

Denying the allegations, Nagpal said, “The ambulance driver hit my car from behind and then stopped his vehicle to check (for damage). But as there was a patient inside, we asked him to go. All the allegations levelled on me are baseless and I am ready to join police investigation.”
