LUCKNOW: It was a special Raksha Bandhan for sub inspector Atul Srivastava of Hasanganj police outpost. A large number of Muslim women of Shivpuri Murgakhana tied Rakhi on his wrist because he had helped a Muslim girl Reshma get her due share in property that was denied by her step-mother.

Reshma’s mother Munni had died long back. Before dying, Munni had requested her neighbours to help her daughter get her due share in property at the time of her marriage. Saajid, the girl’s father, married Sanjida after the death of his first wife. From his second wife, Saajid has two daughters. However, Reshma’s ordeal began when she married one Aakib without taking consent of her step-mother. The latter threw her out of the house and also refused to hand over the gold left by her mother Munni.

Locals approached SI Atul Srivastava of Hasanganj police outpost under Thakurganj police station for help.

The SI took up the issue with Reshma’s step mother and father. After a lot of pursuasion and several rounds of talks, Srivastava succeeded and Reshma’s father and step-mother handed over her share in property and gold. So , on Monday, local Muslim women expressed their love and gratitude to the SI by tying Rakhi on his wrist . “The family of the girl agreed to hand over her sh are in property after a lot of persuasion. The girl is very happy now. I just did my job,” said Srivastava.

The SI’s good work has now become the talking point. Senior police officials have also appreciated his good work.
