Roshan Singh’s kin rues govt, people’s apathy
LUCKNOW: Sarita Singh has grown up hearing tales of the heroic acts of her great grandfather Thakur Roshan Singh, a daring freedom fighter, who was executed for his involvement in the famous Kakori Case.
“I was told that my great grandfather sacrificed his life to help the country throw off the foreign yoke and achieve prosperity . But after I grew up, I noticed that not much has changed. My great grandfather’s selfless contributions have gone in vain,” said Singh, who was here to take part in a programme organised by the district administration to commemorate 92nd anniversary of the Kakori Conspiracy.
What pinched most, she said, was the apathetic behaviour of the government and the people, who were least aware of the contributions of the martyr, nor did they want to know.
“We haven’t got any acknowledgement, either from the people or from the government,” said Singh, who is orthopaedically handicapped and gives tuitions to meet the financial needs of the family.
She said her family didn’t get any help from the government. “None of the governments offered any help. They did not even ask about our financial conditions. Martyrs are remembered either on Kakori Diwas or on national holidays and are paid least attention on the rest of the days,” she lamented.
She said though her mother often called her a born fighter, she seemed to have lost to the corrupt system and apathetic attitude of the government.
