Lucknow in state soccer semi-finals

LUCKNOW: Hosts Sports College Saifai, Lucknow Sports College, Lucknow and Gorakhpur stormed into the semi-finals of the State Schools Subroto Cup Football Tournament, notching up contrasting wins, at the Saifai Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

Nitish, Shadab and Vikas scored a goal each as Lucknow Sports College defeated Devipatan 3-0, whereas Saifai Sports College crushed Agra 9-0 in the other match of the day. Saurabh remained the star performer for the side, netting four goals, whereas Amit and Suraj netted three and two goals, respectively to complete the formality. Gorakhpur defeated Bareilly 6-0, whereas Lucknow brushed aside Moradabad 2-0 to book berths in the semi-finals.

FINE VICTORY

Golden Boys caused a major surprise in the District Football League-2017 on Wednesday, defeating last year’s runners-up Sahara Estates by a solitary goal, at the Chowk Stadium here. After a goalless first half, Viplav struck the all-important in the 37th minute after a change in the ends. The second match of the day between UP Police and Men’s United ended in a goalless draw. Men’s United Ibne Talib was shown the red card for foul play.

CHATURVEDI CHESS

After the completion of the second round of up to class 5th category LMC were leading with eight points in the 3rd Avinash Chandra Chaturvedi Memorial Inter-School Chess Team Championship, at the Moti Mahal here on Wednesday. LPS with five points were at the second place.

In the third round of up to class 8th category, DPS Stars won all the boards against BVM Riders of Bal Vidya Mandir and attained sole lead with 11.5 points. .
