LUCKNOW: With the arrest of jailed mafioso Munna Bajrangi gang’s shooter in Gomti Nagar, the police on Saturday claimed to have foiled the murder conspiracy of an executive engineer of irrigation department.

The shooter, Ajay Dubey alias Jigar Dubey, was held when he landed in the city with intention to eliminate executive engineer Janardan Singh over dispute related to multi-crore tender.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Lucknow, Deepak Kumar said Dubey had done recce of Singh’s Gomti Nagar house for two days with the help of one of his aides.

Kumar said Singh had earlier lodged an FIR claiming life threat issued to him over phone in Rae Bareli where he was posted presently.

The SSP said Dubey was arrested while he had come here to collect a pistol to execute the killing.

He said Dubey revealed during interrogation that another aide of Munna Bajrangi, Reshu Singh, had asked him to execute the crime as he wanted to create terror in the irrigation department to procure multiple-crore tenders.

Kumar said Dubey’s involvement had surfaced in multiple crime incidents in the past and he was the one who had issued threat to the engineer.

The SSP said Dubey and Reshu decided to eliminate the engineer when the latter did not give in to their threats.

A country made firearm and two cartridges were also recovered from his possession. He said raids were on to nab Reshu.
