RJD denies it was involved, 6 arrested
HAJIPUR: Bihar police arrested six suspects after an FIR was filed against nine persons by name and 100 others over an attack on deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi whose motorcade was stoned on Tuesday.
Vaishali SP Rakesh Kumar said six persons were identified as Jugal Kishor Rai, Raj Kumar Rai-I, Anil Kumar Bhagat, Harendra Singh, Rama Singh and Mohan Rai. Three others named are absconding.
On Wednesday, after proper verification and preliminary investigation, Rajapakar police inspector Shiv Vijay Singh, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, lodged an FIR on his statement against nine.
“The raids are on and all named and unknown and identified during the investigation, will be arrested soon,” said Kumar.
Police registered FIR under sections 147,149, 341,342,323,504,353 and 283 of IPC, which pertain to wrongful restraint, confinement, assembly, use of force, pelting stones, using abusive language and restricting people on government duty.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the party CM Nitish Kumar dumped last month to realign with the BJP, rejected allegations that its members were involved in the attack. Police sources said the arrests were made between Tuesday evening and early on Wednesday.
Modi was unhurt in the attack but four vehicles were reportedly damaged when they were hit near Chaksikandar in Vaishali district.
Minutes before Modi’s motorcade, RJD leader and former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who represents Raghopur assembly constituency in Vaishali district, crossed the same stretch.
