IMA team visits BRD medical college, blames admn for crisis
THE IMA HAS HELD THE THEN PRINCIPAL OF BRD PROF RAJIV MISHRA AND ENCEPHALITIS WARD HEAD DR KAFEEL KHAN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OXYGEN CRISIS
The fact-finding team of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has stated in its report that oxygen supply was disrupted in the wards of the BRD Medical College hospital on the night of August 10.
Blaming the BRD Medical College administration for the oxygen crisis, the IMA team said the supplier company stopped the supply of liquid oxygen to the Medical College hospital due to non-payment of dues.
The IMA has held the then principal of the medical college Professor Rajiv Mishra and in-charge of the encephalitis ward Dr Kafeel Khan responsible for the oxygen crisis and negligence.
The three-member team of the IMA, including Dr KP Kushwaha, Dr Ashok Agarwal and Dr BB Gupta, visited the BRD Medical College on Thursday. Late in the evening, the IMA team released its report stating that there was lack of cleanliness and sanitation in the wards. The hospital had admitted patients more than the wards’ capacity without making arrangement for the extra patients.
The IMA team also stated that not only Gorakhpur, no proper arrangement had been made in 16 neighbouring districts for the treatment of the encephalitis patients. There was shortage of pediatricians and resources in the district hospitals and community health centres in the districts. The IMA team said large numbers of patients were going to private hospital for treatment due to lack of facilities in government hospitals. The state government should bear the expenses of the poor patients admitted in private hospitals, it said.
