VARANASI: A set of posters claiming that the ‘Varanasi MP had gone missing’ had cropped up at a few locations in the city on Friday night.

The posters had a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is the Member of Parliament from the seat.

Believed to be a handiwork of some mischievous elements, the controversial posters, found at an outer wall of a building in Sigra and Kutchehary areas, were removed within hours of the matter coming to light.

The poster reads, “In Varanasi, he was last seen seeking votes on March 4, 5, and 6 to win state assembly elections. Thereafter, he has gone missing. If his location is not traced, Kashi residents will be forced to file an FIR with the police.”

Those who have out up such posters claimed themselves to be, “helpless, hapless and the disappointed Kashi residents.”

Sigra inspector Gopal Ji Gupta said the posters had been removed.

“It appears to be handiwork of some mischievous elements. Further probe is on and we are trying to identify those involved in the mischief,” he said.

The PM had visited Kashi in the first week of March.

He had held three back-toback road shows seeking votes and supports for his party candidates. BJP and its alliance had swept all eight assembly seats from here.
