LUCKNOW: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused some officials under the Vidhan Parishad chairman of trying to make recruitment to some posts in a manner that according to it is ‘suspicious and lacks transparency’.

Uttar Pradesh labour minister Swami Prasad Maurya and BJP MLA from Shekhupur (Badayun) Dharmendra Singh Shakya have written letters separately to Vidhan Parishad chairman Ramesh Yadav, accusing some officers under him of trying to appoint their family members to some posts in the upper house.

Yadav, however, said he was yet to see any such letters.

“I am back to Lucknow today only and any such letters, if sent at all, will be put before me when I go to office tomorrow (Thursday),” he told HT over the phone.

Vidhan Parishad chairman Ramesh Yadav belongs to the Samajwadi Party (SP) that commands a majority in the upper house. Secretary, Vidhan Parishad, Mohan Yadav, who was appointed by the SP government, continues to hold his post under the present government as well.

In their letters written on August 21, both the BJP leaders have alleged that some officers/ employees under the Vidhan Parishad chairman were conspiring to appoint their family members to the gazetted posts of editor, research assistant, security assistant, among others, in a secret manner.

“This is why they have advertised the posts in a little-known Hindi daily published by the son of a special secretary, Vidhan Parishad, instead of advertising them in prominent local newspapers,” the BJP letters said.

They pointed out that the daily in which the posts were advertised had no circulation and was not available even in the Vidhan Parishad library.

“The officers have deliberately not put the vacancies on the Vidhan Parishad’s website or on the notice board, apart from not advertising them in prominent newspapers,” the BJP leaders claimed.

They demanded that the chairman cancel the vacancy notice published in the littleknown daily.

They said the same should be published in prominent local newspapers and uploaded on the website as per rules for the sake of transparency.
