LUCKNOW: An employee of the state revenue department was found dead in his room in Malihabad tehsil on Wednesday morning in mysterious circumstances. The deceased, Vishal Singh, 56, was a Kanungo, posted at the Malihabad tehsil here.

The tehsil employees staged a demonstration on the tehsil campus demanding a detailed probe in Singh’s death. Agitators also accused senior officials of the tehsil of exerting unnecessary work pressure on Singh.

According to reports, generally Singh used to return to his private residence in Alambagh. But at times, when he used to get late after completing work, he used to stay back at his official residence in the Malihabad tehsil campus.

After completing work on Tuesday night, Singh stayed back at his tehsil residence. On Wednesday morning, when his domestic help knocked at the door there was no reply. He informed Singh’s neighbour, Dhirmendra Singh. When Dhirmendra did not get any reply after knocking at the door, he informed the police. When cops broke open the door, they found Singh lying dead on his bed.

Hearing of Kanungo’s death, many employees of the tehsil gathered at his residence. After getting the information, family members of the deceased also reached the spot. Staff members of the tehsil staged a demonstration on the tehsil campus accusing senior officials of harassing Singh and other employees.

Cops had a tough time pacifying the agitators. Family members of the deceased alleged murder and demanded a detailed probe in the incident. Later, when the senior police officials assured the deceased’s family members of a fair investigation, the tehsil staff ended the agitation.

The police sent Singh’s body for autopsy and are waiting for the reports to carry out further investigation.
