LUCKNOW: Though it has failed to provide the citizens basic civic amenities like pothole-free roads, enough potable water and streetlights, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation is all set to hike house tax by 60% to 80%.

Before this, the house tax rates were revised in year 2010 and next revision was due in year 2015.

However, the revision is being considered in 2017 which means LMC is already late by 2 years in revising the house tax.

Another jolt is for the owners of vacant plots. Initially, there was no tax on such plots.

However, this time the Lucknow Municipal Corporation, which is looking for ways to improve its revenue, has decided to levy a minimum property tax on vacant plots too.

Additional municipal commissioner PK Srivastava said, “Many people have made it a business to purchase plots and sell them after a few years. These plots are a big nuisance for public and LMC earns nothing out of it. Not only that these vacant plots are turn out to be a safe hideouts for criminals.”

He said that the LMC uses the tax for the development works and residents must respect the fact that cost of all the development work has increased.

THE HOUSE TAX WILL INCREASE BY 60% TO 80% AND WATER TAX WILL BE FIVE TIMES OF WHAT YOU PAY AT PRESENT.
