LUCKNOW: The state government on Wednesday assured the agitating shiksha mitras that it was sympathetic to their demands but at the same time refused to make any commitment or set timeframe for resolution of the same.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath gave a patient hearing to a delegation of shiksha mitras at Lal Bahadur Shastri Bhawan on Wednesday evening. Additional chief secretary basic education RP Singh was also present.

The CM said different groups of shiksha mitras through their representatives give a unanimous representation and route it through Singh. After discussion and consultation on the representation, adequate steps would be taken by the government.

The delegation after meeting the CM told HT that they had called off their ongoing stir. They claimed the government assured to form a 3-member committee under RP Singh that will look for an amicable solution.

The shiksha mitras urged the government to follow Aashram Padwati system where teachers get salary instead of honorarium for 11 months and 29 days instead of 12 months. But the government in its press statement made no comments on Aashram Padwati pattern.

Earlier on August 21, the government had proposed to revert shiksha mitras to their original position and pay honorarium of Rs 10,000 per month with effect from August 1. To accommodate them as assistant teacher in government primary schools, the state government had decided to conduct TET in October 2017 in which all shiksha mitras will be eligible to take part. But the proposal did not cut ice with them.
