St Fidelis, Study Hall cagers in quarterfinals

LUCKNOW: St Fidelis and Study Hall stormed into the boys section quarterfinals of the Under-14 Lucknow Basketball League-2017, notching up convincing wins here on Wednesday.

St Fidelis defeated LPC Rajajipuram 18-9 after leading by 12-4 at the break. Prakhar (8) and Shwetank (5) excelled for the winners, whereas Rishabh (6) did well for the losers.

In other match of the day, Study Hall defeated Spring Dale (Indira Nagar) 22-9. Kumar Addi (12) and Kapil (4) were the key scorers for Study Hall, whereas Varchasva (5) did the best for the losers.

Fine showing at the recently concluded junior and youth nationals helped a number of Uttar Pradesh cagers making a mark at the national level. On Wednesday some of them were rewarded for their outstanding performances, getting selected in the Indian teams camp for the under-16.

Among girls, Vashnavi Yadav (Allahabad), Shivani Gupta (Varanasi), Vartika Kushwaha (Agra) and Riya Baliyan (Meerut) have been asked to attend camp at SAI Center in Gandhi Nagar.

The Indian team will participate in the FIBA Asia Championship at Banguluru from October 22 to 28.

Two boys Priyanshu from Bagapath and Shubham from Gorakhpur would be attending camp at the SAI Center in Aurangabad before participating in the SABA Qualifying Championship at Nepal, beginning from September 5. Vibhor Bhriguvanshi from Varanasi has been appointed as coach.
