LUCKNOW: Only 10% households in India use a PC (personal computer). This is way behind countries such as Sri Lanka, Brazil, China, and USA, which means the creativity of the coming generation is yet to get a platform.

“There are a lot of devices such as smartphones that help surf the Internet. But studies have proved that creativity comes out best when one uses a personal computer,”said Krishnakumar P, vice-president, consumer and small business at Dell International Services.

He added, “PCs are also better health wise as the hot air emission by these is away from the face.”

At present, the household PC penetration in Sri Lanka is 15%, Brazil 40%, China 60%, Malaysia 65%, and USA and South Korea are close to 100%.

“Keeping this in mind, we have decided to impart the basic computer education to women, especially the mothers and school teachers across India,” he said.

He said that the best use of a PC was for the students.

Though laptops provide comfortable exploring on the internet, but long use often gives rise to posture problems like pain in neck.

“If you start using smartphone for everything, in a few years you will be looking down on the ground all the time as a habit, hence, for long time use personal computers are the best as they make you sit straight,” he said.

“Posture problems are rising in young generation which uses smartphone. Studies also say that your style of walking changes if you use your cell phone much while you walk,” said Dr Sandeep Kapoor, director, Healthcity Trauma Centre and Superspeciality Hospital.
