Tearful adieu to braveheart
VARANASI: Sub-inspector Jai Prakash Singh, who laid down his life during an encounter with dacoit Babuli Kol gang in Chitrakoot area on Thursday, was cremated at the Manikarnika Ghat here on Friday.
Before his last rites were performed, police personnel paid their last respect to the martyr.
Earlier, Singh’s mortal remains were brought to his native Mandiyahoo Nevadhia village in Jaunpur district. Minister of state Mahendra Singh, ADG Vishwajeet Mahapatra and the local MLA were there since morning.
They consoled the martyr’s parents Shyambihari Singh and Jeeravati Devi. His wife Chanda Singh is unconscious ever since she came to know about the tragedy.
Thousands of locals paid tribute to the braveheart. His elder son Subham Singh lit the pyre. Singh has left behind his parents, wife and two sons.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke to Shyambihari Singh over the phone and promised him all possible help to the martyr’s family from the government.
He also announced that Rs 25 lakh will be given to the family of Singh by the home department and an equal amount will be released for them from the CM relief fund.
Yogi Adityanath further announced construction of a ‘gate’ and a rechristening a road in Singh’s home district Jaunpur in his name. He will also be awarded a bravery medal posthumously, the chief minister said.
