High-speed solar charkha to promote khadi soon: Minister
UP minister for khadi and gramodyog Satyadev Pachauri on Saturday said the government would provide ‘solar charkhas’ to centres to generate employment and promote the use of khadi.
Pachauri, who was in Allahabad to review khadi, village industry and design workshop for the promotion of handicraft, said solar charkhas would increase production and create employment opportunities, especially for women.
“Khadi is already catching a lot of attention in foreign countries. All we need is to promote it properly. For this, khadi centres will be opened in different parts of the state,” he said.
“We managed to generate 6,902 jobs through promotion of khadi and small scale industries. The state has 1,255 micro, 75 small and three medium enterprises,” the minister said.
Pachauri added directives had been issued to the officials to resolve the problems of industry owners on priority basis especially when it is related to running their units.
“Any scheme for promotion of khadi and small industries can be successful only when it is implemented properly. Running schemes only on papers will not yield any results,” he said.
He added people would be provided employment under Pradhan Mantri Rozgar Srijan Yojana.
A month-long national khadi and handicraft exhibition is organised every year in Magh Mela in which a fashion show is also held. It attracts a huge number of people who buy khadi clothes and products.
