55.4 mm rain in Lucknow; expect more today

LUCKNOW: The state capital recorded 55.4 mm rain in just about six hours on Sunday. People in several pockets of the city, including the Rumi Gate area, Thakurganj, Hazratganj crossing and Alambagh, had to wade through water-logged roads. Heavy rain also caused a portion of the boundary wall of an old building in Thakurganj to collapse on Sunday, injuring three children who were playing there.

LUCKNOW: Heavy rain in the state capital caused a portion of the boundary wall of an old building in Thakurganj to collapse on Sunday, injuring three children who were playing there. The kids were pulled out of debris and rushed to the trauma centre where they are undergoing treatment.

The state capital recorded 55.4 mm rain in just about six hours on Sunday. It started raining at 11.30 am and the showers continued till around 5.30 pm. People in several pockets of the city, including the Rumi Gate area, Thakurganj, Hazratganj crossing and Alambagh, had to wade through water-logged roads.

Traffic was thrown out of gear due to the ensuing traffic jams. Several auto rickshaws also broke down in the middle of the roads. People had a tough time booking cabs too, as prices surged to almost double the usual fare.

Widespread rainfall during the past 24 hours was recorded in other districts too. Banda recorded the highest rainfall of 62mm, Orai got 58 mm, Fursatganj recorded 54.4 mm, Ghazipur 36.6 mm and Etawah 22 mm.

The met department has predicted a partly cloudy sky, rain and thunder showers in Lucknow and adjoining areas on Monday too. A warning about heavy rain in isolated places all over the state was also issued. As per the forecast, the maximum and minimum temperatur­e on Monday will be around 33 and 26 degrees Celsius, similar to the figures recorded on Sunday -- day temperatur­e 32.5° C and minimum temperatur­e 26 degrees.
