LUCKNOW: Initial probe has suggested that the body of Pushpa Tiwari was pulled out of the freezer which gave the dogs a chance to mutilate the corpse. Her family alleged her ornaments were missing.

Bodies brought to the morgue for post mortem examination are kept in a freezer and the body of Pushpa Tiwari, 40, too was preserved in the same manner.

“The body was kept in the freezer and the door was closed. But in the morning, when the family members arrived, the body was found outside the freezer and it was evident that it had been tampered with ,” said principal secretary health, Prashant Trivedi, in a press statement issued after preliminary probe into the incident.

If the body was kept in the freezer, dogs could not have taken it out. So there appears to be human intervention between the time the door was closed and then opened. The family also alleged that the ornaments on the body were missing.

“Who took the body out of the freezer and where are the ornaments?” the family members asked the hospital authorities.

The theft of the ornaments has also been mentioned in the FIR lodged in the Vibhuti Khand police station by Pushpa’s husband Vinod Tiwari. The missing ornaments include mangalsutra, ear rings, nose ring and anklets.

Prime facie, stealing of ornaments appears to be the reason for the body being outside the freezer.

The investigating team is also looking at the possibility of some criminals entering the morgue, who might have taken out the body , stolen the ornaments and left the body outside in a hurry.

The hospital usually asks patients to remove ornaments or any metal object from the body before operation but not in the case of treatment in the wards.

Pushpa was married to Vinod Tiwari 22 years ago and had two children.
