Tight vigil in dists near Haryana

AGRA/ALIGARH: With the CBI court set to pronounce quantum of punishment for Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim on Monday, security is being tightened in Agra zone districts adjoining the Haryana border.

Apprehendi­ng infiltrati­on by Dera followers, police authoritie­s are keeping a watch on the localities where these people could be putting up. “Measures have been taken for enhanced vigil in districts on Haryana border and Section 144 has been enforced,” said Ajay Anand, ADG (Agra zone).

“The state is on alert and Section 144 is in force in sensitive districts adjoining Haryana border,” he stated.

LAWYERS CALL OFF AGRA BANDH

The Action Committee for Establishm­ent of High Court Bench in Agra withdrew its call for Agra Bandh on Monday. Manish Singh, spokespers­on for the action committee, stated that lawyers have withdrawn their call for Agra Bandh keeping in view the sensitivit­y of the Dera Sacha Sauda issue. “Now, a combined meet of western UP districts would be held on September 23 to plan future strategy.” Meanwhile, the Aligarh administra­tion has also strengthen­ed security on UP-Haryana border.

“Vehicles on the border are being checked so that entry of anti-social elements into Aligarh can be stopped. Police are also keeping a close watch on activities of Dera Sacha Sauda followers,” said district magistrate Rishikesh Bhaskar Yashod.

SSP Rajesh Pandey said: “All vehicles will be checked on the border till August 28, when the CBI court will pronounce quantum of punishment for Gurmeet Ram Rahim.”
