Aaliyah enjoys double delight with records
LUCKNOW: Young swimmer from Gautam Budh Nagar, Aaliyah Singh on Sunday not only created two new records in the 60th Senior State Aquatics Championship, but also helped the side emerge women’s team champions.
At the KD Singh ‘Babu’ stadium pool, Aaliyah, who also emerged as the best women swimmer, bettered her own marks in the 50m butterfly and 50m free style events.
She clocked 00:31.03 seconds to erase her own mark in the 50m butterfly.
Her previous best was 00:31.57 seconds. In 50m free style, she covered the distance in 00:29.56 seconds, erasing her own mark of 00.29.66 seconds, which was set up last year.
Gorakhnath Yadav of Faizabad (50m butterfly men), Ansh Arora of Gautam Budh Nagar (100m breaststroke), Atish Kumar of Mirzapur (200m breaststroke) and Yogeshwar Prasad of Mirzapur (400m individual medley) too set up new records on the final day of the event. Yogeshwar was later named best men swimmer of the championship, whereas Varanasi women with 136 points won the team championship.
OPEN CHESS
Pawan Batham scored maximum possible five points to emerge victorious in the open category of the Avijai Open Chess Tournament here on Sunday. Shailesh Pandit, Mayank Pandey, Ritikesh and Y K Srivastava stood at second, third, fourth and fifth respectively. Aryan Pandey in under-16 and Krishna in under-12 categories emerge victorious.
ASISC FOOTBALL
The ASISC Football Tournament got off to a flying start, at the Spring Dale College here on Sunday. In the opening match, Spring Dale College defeated LPC Rajajipuram 8-0, St. Francis beat CMS Chowk 5-0, St Francis beat St Joseph 2-0, LPC Sahara Estates beat Nirmala Convent. 3-0, St Fedelis beat Jaipuria 2- 0, Gurukul Academy beat CMS Indira Nagar 2-1 in tiebreaker, Jaipuria beat Career Convent 4-0.
TENNIS LEAGUE
Ahana Swasroop Agarwal and Sanidhya Dhar won the under-10 girls and boys titles, respectively at the Little Champs Tennis League here on Sunday.
Ahana defeated Sakshi 6-1 in the final, whereas Sanidhya outplayed Shikhar 6-0.
