The accused, Jasbir Singh, was arrested at around 4am on Monday after an intensive manhunt was launched by the Naka police to arrest all six accused in the sensational murder.

A group of local goons, reportedly associated with a local politician, shot dead hotel and mobile shop owner Mukesh Manwani, 37, outside his shop in the crowded Guru Nanak market in Naka area on August 25 afternoon.

The police identified six persons involved in the murder. Balbir Dua, the key accused and Parul Tewari have already been arrested. Other three accused Rajendra Dua, Manjeet Dua and Surjeet alias Sheru are still absconding and a search is on to nab them.

To recall, on August 25, Mukesh’s and his two brothers, Heera and Vikram Manwani, were present in their shop when a group of people led by Balbeer Dua reached there and had a confrontation with Mukesh.

Dua and his supporters opened fire to create terror but a bullet hit Mukesh in the chest and he died while being rushed to the KGMU’s trauma centre.

The murder was the fallout of a dispute over possession of a prime property in the Guru Nanak market, said Vikas Chandra Tripathi, additional superintendent of police (West).

A group of local traders also alleged that Dua and his aides had attacked and beaten up many other traders in the past to establish their supremacy in the market and grab others’ properties.
