A youth posing as a doctor was arrested from ward number 7 of JN Medical College (JNMC) at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Monday.

The accused had been treating patients for the past three days, introducing himself as an MBBS and MD doctor, said M Mohsin Khan, AMU proctor.

An MCI card, hospital log book, OT dress, syringe, medicines, books and other documents were recovered from him by the police.

The Civil Lines police registered an FIR against the accused, Virendra Singh on the basis of the complaint lodged by AMU security in-charge.

The accused youth had been seeing patients in the burns and plastic surgery ward (ward no 7) with a fake identity – Dr Himanshu. When Dr Shabah and Dr Sarfaraz noticed him, the youth became nervous. Suspecting something fishy, the doctors called the security staff.

The security personnel reached there and nabbed the accused. After receiving information Civil Lines police officials also reached the hospital. During interrogation, the youth tried to misguide the police, doctors and kept giving different details about his name and address. When his bag was checked, an MCI card, log book of daily activity of resident doctors, dress used in operation, pen drive, two PAN cards bearing separate names, two ATM cards, and biodata were recovered.

On one ATM and aadhaar card his name appeared as Virendra Singh while on the log book it was Dr Himanshu. Later, he identified himself as Virendra Singh of Karhala area in Gonda.

A FIR was lodged against him in Civil Lines police station. After the youth’s arrest, people suspected that a big racket might be on at JNMC. Virendra Singh claimed that the recovered items were found by him outside a ward and he was going to deposit them with the CMO.

Meanwhile, the arrest of the fake doctor indicates towards a racket that diverts patients from JNMC to private nursing homes and pathology labs.
