A teenaged girl lost her life after she slipped and fell into Yamuna while attempting to take a selfie on the banks of the river in Bateshwar, 65 kilometres from Agra city.

Her two sisters too jumped into the river to save her but themselves struggled to stay afloat and had to be rescued. The siblings, residents of Bah town, were at Bateshwar to attend a fair on Sunday. They were identified as Madhu Bala Bhadoria (21), Divya Bhadoria (19) and Shivya Bhadoria (17).

It was Shivya who went down at Gopeshwar ghat to have a selfie and suddenly slipped. An alarm was raised and those attending the fair rushed to save the sisters. While Madhu Bala and Divya were saved, rescuers couldn’t trace Shivya.

‘A search is on but it may be too late,’ said Vijay Singh, incharge of Bah police station.

Sunday’s incident comes close on the heels of another such case earlier this month in Mathura district when two sisters fell while taking a selfie from a temple premises located on a 70 feet hillock in Barsana. Both luckily escaped with minor injuries.

Earlier on December 3, 2016, a youth lost both his legs while trying to have a selfie in moving Kaifiyat Express train near Tundla junction of Firozabad district.
