SAI men, SSB women win hockey titles

LUCKNOW Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Shashtra Seema Bal (SSB) won the men and women teams titles, respective­ly in the Lucknow Hockey League2017, notching up identical wins, at the Padamshree Mohd Shahid Hockey Stadium here on Friday.

SAI defeated Sports Hostel 3-2 in penalty shootout after the two teams ended their scheduled time at 1-1, before SSB registerin­g an identical win against Sports Hostel also in penalty shootout. SSB eves dominated the proceeding­s from the very start and forged into lead in the very second minute when Indu T Singh struck from the left side (1-0). However, one goal deficit rang the alarm bell for the Sports Hostel girls, who started making attacks on regular intervals.

Their repeated efforts paid rich dividends in the 21st minute when Shreya Singh restored parity in style (1-1).

The ding dong battle continued even after that, but none of the side could break the ice further. In the men’s final too, Sports Hostel managed to draw the first blood in the second quarter in the 30th minute through Ajai Gupta (1-0).

They went on dominating the game further, but another goal remained elusive. In the 47th minute, captain Manish Yadav struck for SAI to level the score.

EASY WINS

It was a day of convincing wins in the Avinash Chandra Chaturvedi Memorial Inter-School Football Tournament, at the Chowk Stadium here on Friday. Mount Fort beat CMS Gomti Nagar 2-0 to make it to the semifinals. Ravi Yadav and Sakshyam scored a goal each in the first half. In the second match, DPS (Eldeco) beat Maharsi Vidya Mandir 3-0 also to make it to the last four grades. Yash Raj, Karandeep and Daksh shared all three goals between them.

JEEVESH SHINES

Jeevesh Srivastava took five for five, whereas Yash Rao bagged three for 12 as Jaipuria Cricket Academy (JCA) defeated Drona Cricket Academy (DCA) by 99 runs in a league match of the 2nd PP Dua Memorial Cricket Tournament, at the Christian College Ground here on Friday. The two bowled superbly as DCA while chasing 136 in 30 overs, collapsed for a paltry 36 in 20.4 overs.

CAL TRIALS

Instead of holding trials in the state capital, the Cricket Associatio­n Lucknow would be conducting its under-23 trials at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Saturday at 10.00 a.m. CAL’s acting secretary, Gopal Singh has asked all the aspirants to report at the venue.
