LUCKNOW: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) has denied admission to a meritorious student who topped the entrance exam on charges of indiscipline.

The newly constituted proctorial board of university on September 1 has decided that students against whom university has taken disciplinary action or lodged an FIR will not be admitted to any course of the university for further studies.

A scheduled caste candidate, Basant Kumar Kannaujiya had topped in M Phil History entr ance examination. He scored 94 marks out of 100. Basant did postgraduate in History between 2012 and 14 and B Ed 2015-17 from BBAU. He applied for M Phil and topped in the entrance test.

“Now, they are denying me admission to M Phil History course because I stood for dalit students and raised their issue. University is unable the digest my success. I’m running from pillar to post for my admission,” said Basant while talking to HT.

Basant said, “It is true that I was against university’s arbitrary attitude and questioned its decision from several platforms including Facebook. It is because of this they have singled me out and are denying me admission to M Phil. I am now clueless as what to do,” he said.

BBAU proctor Prof Ram Chandra said, “There has to be some mechanism to discipline these students. They were repeatedly warned not to disturb peace on the campus.” A notice signed by BBAU proctor Prof Ram Chandra, is now uploaded on university website that reads: “If any HoD or dean is taking admission of such a student , an undertaking on stamp paper must be obtained from the student declaring that he/she will not be involved in any indsciplinary activities in future.”
