LUCKNOW: Glitches apart, there were some memorable and selfie moments for passengers who took their first ride in the Metro. The enthusiasm could be gauged by the fact that hundreds of people stood at the ticket counter of Charbagh Metro station before sunrise to take their maiden Metro ride.

Like many others, HT reporter Rajeev Mullick and lensman Deepak Gupta also boarded the metro from Charbagh station.

From morning walkers to joggers, many preferred to break their routine for a day and board the first metro train. While senior citizens were spotted in white kurta-pyjama, youngsters were in track suits.

Two sisters, Divya and Shweta Rai, reached Charbagh metro station on a two-wheeler to take the metro.

“We woke up early and came here so we can board the first train,” said Divya while her sister remained busy in taking videos as the metro chugged out of the platform. There were nearly 150 passengers in all the four coaches of the metro.

there were enough seats to be accommodated, youngsters preferred to stand so they could catch a glimpse of the outside view. Rahul Jain, who is pursuing CA, and Shivanshu Tewari, a medical aspirant, boarded from Charbagh to Transport Nagar.

“We have come here to enjoy the ride. It is nice to see that people came out early in the morning for metro,” said Rahul.

Himanshi Verma, a BCom student at Avadh Girls’ Degree College, said, “It is a lovely view as the train moves on elevated pillars. We took selfies and posted it on Facebook when the train was on the move.”

Not many passengers boarded the train from other stations. Many curious passengers preferred to take a stroll from the last compartment to engine cab.

Passengers had their eyes fixed at the LCD screen that gave information of the next station because public address system inside the train remained non-functional. Most of them took the return ride from Transport Nagar to Charbagh.

“From now on, the travel time to my college will be reduced with Metro. Normally, it took more than an hour but it will be faster now,” Mahima Singh, a student of National PG College, said.

Senior citizens Kapil Puri (72) and GV Tiwari (69) were all smiles when they boarded the train to Charbagh.
