A man allegedly threw his 24-year-old wife out of the house for drawing portraits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath at a village in Sikandarpur area of Ballia district, police said.

Police said Nagma Parveen, a native of Maturi village in Sikandarpur police station area, married Parvez Khan of Basakirpur village in the same area in November 2016. Nagma’s father Shamsher Khan alleged that his son-in-law and other in-laws used to harass her for dowry. Still, she tried to get along with them, he said. Police said the women drew paintings of PM Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath recently and showed them to her husband, who allegedly lost his cool and beat her up. The woman informed her father Shamsher Khan. He reached Basakirpur and spoke to his son-in-law and his parents. They alleged that Nagma had gone mad.

“She is drawing pictures of Modi and Yogi. She has no right to live here,” they said. The woman and her father then headed to the police station and narrated their woes to the police. Avinash Kumar Singh, station officer of Sikandarpur police station said, “We (police) are going to register a case in this connection following a complaint by the woman.
