Railways set for track renewal work for better safety
Following several train mishaps all over the country in the recent few months, the railways has now planned to undertake track renewal in all the 17 railway zones of the country to enhance rail safety.
Newly appointed chairman of Railway Board Ashwani Lohani gave this information here on Saturday during an interaction with mediapersons at North Central Railway (NCR) headquarters in Allahabad. General manager, NCR MC Chauhan was also present on the occasion.
This was Lohani’s first visit to NCR headquarters after assuming charge as chairman on August 23. He was here to meet NCR senior officials and review projects undertaken in the zone.
He said track renewal work would be undertaken on priority basis especially in those sections of the zones where condition of tracks were not fit, posing threat to rail safety.
Lohani said safety of trains as well as passengers was the topmost area of focus with cleanliness, which was not possible without the collective effort, help and support of railway staff.
“But, this will happen only when our railway staff works without having stress and anxiety. Therefore, instructions have been issued to head of all the zonal railways to ensure that the grievances of railway workers should be addressed on priority. This will help them to work in a better frame of mind and with positive approach,” he added.
“In addition, the railway has also planned to fill vacant posts soon,” he added. .
Meanwhile, in Kanpur Lohani asserted the passenger safety was a priority for the Indian Railways, which was putting extra emphasis on track maintenance.
