UPSRTC bags awards for rural bus service, four other projects
Continuing with its award winning spree, the UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has bagged the 49th Skoch Consultancy Awards for five projects nominated under smart governance category.
The government-run corporation got the gold award, next to the platinum in importance, in all five categories at a function in New Delhi on Saturday. Projects include use of radio frequency identification (RFID) FasTag cards, creation of Wi-Fi hotspots at bus stations and in buses besides rural bus connectivity.
The UPSRTC’s rural bus service model was especially praised by the jury comprising experts from various fields.
“Use of RFID FasTag cards for payment of toll tax, seamless journey, reduced travel time promoting Digital India Initiative while creation of Wi-Fi hotspots at bus stations and in buses for entertainment, internet connectivity gave a different experience to passengers and creation of modern driver training centres under skill development mission for road safety deal with the shortage of skilled drivers,” said a spokesman.
‘Yatri Se Seedha Samvaad’, he said, was a service aimed at empowerment of public and use of social media for grievance redress. “We get around 4000 grievances per month and satisfactorily resolve over 80%. Around 40% are ticketing related like refunds, under and overcharging, luggage. 30% are bus condition and crew behaviour and 30% miscellaneous,” he claimed.
