GORAKHPUR: Samajwadi Party president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday took a dig at the Modi government at the centre and the Yogi government in the state.

Describing them as bandiwali sarkar (government of shutdowns), he said the BJP regime at the Centre stopped the use of high value currency notes, oxygen supply at Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College was disrupted under the Yogi Adityanath government’s watch.

Akhilesh also said the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) destroyed trade and harassed traders .

The SP chief took on the BJP for failing to usher in development even in chief minister Yogi Adityanath ‘s hometown Gorakhpur

“I want to ask those who used to highlight Safai and Etawah what they have given to Gorakhpur,” Akhilesh asked while addressing a crowd of farmers during Kisan Shaheed Diwas in Kushinagar ‘s Ramkola .

On September 10, 1992 , two farmer leaders were shot dead in police firing while seeking loan waiver .The protest was led by Radheyshyam Singh, former minister in the SP government. Since then, the SP observes this day as Kisan Shaheed Diwas .

Akhilesh, who was seen locked in a war of words with Yogi Adityanath over supply of power in Gorakhpur during the UP election campaign, pointed to the pending AIIMS project.

“The land for AIIMS in Gorakhpur was earmarked by the previous SP government but this government has not yet passed the budget for constructing the top medical institute,” he added.

The work on the under construction 500 bed encephalitis ward at BRD Medical College also came to a halt under this government, he added .

Akhilesh Yadav hit out at the BJP government for discontinuing its popular schemes like Samajwadi Pension Yojna. He taunted the CM for pointing out corruption in the UP 100 police services . Akhilesh added his government recruited shiksha mitras (contractual teachers) but the present government lathicharged them.
