LUCKNOW: Agitating students of Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University on Monday decided to suspend their indefinite protest after the vicechancellor assured them of sending two senior officials on long leave till the pendency of inquiry against them. Regular classes will begin from Tuesday.

“We are only putting our agitation on hold to give authorities an opportunity to address the issue. The vice-chancellor has assured that he will write a letter to chief minister Yogi Adityanath to hold general council meeting and to chief justice of India to review the university’s functioning,” said a student after meeting V-C.

V-C Gurdip Singh said he had asked deputy registrar Sanjay Diwakar to proceed on long leave. The joint registrar, GD Gangwar had applied for leave, which was also approved. “We are trying to hold emergency executive council meeting and academic council meeting to resolve the issues,” he said.

“We also had a meeting with deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma who assured us that he will set up an inquiry to investigate allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds. He also took the sexual harassment matter seriously and assured that action will be taken,” said students.
