‘Don’t use lower rung rly workers as domestic help’

The railway administra­tion has decided to initiate action against those officers who use the services of lower rung workers at their residences as domestic help. Newly appointed chairman of Railway Board Ashwini Lohani has issued orders to all the heads of railway zones, including the general manager of North Central Railway (NCR), to initiate effective measure to check the practice in their zones.

He said the officials who were taking the services lower rung workers for their personal work should submit an affidavit to the head of their department that they would not exploit any lower rung staff and take assistance of only those workers who had been deputed for it by the railways.

The step was taken after Lohani met gangmen, keymen and trackmen in Allahabad to listen to their grievances and the problems faced by them.

He also directed the officials to ensure that keymen carried out only the work of inspecting railway tracks. “The objective behind the order is to ensure transparen­cy in the functionin­g of railways and enhance work efficiency,” said NCR general manger MC Chauhan.

He said instructio­ns had been issued to senior officials of all the three divisions of the zone to comply with the orders of Railway Board chief.
