Road Surcharge
Effective 3rd January 2014, a road surcharge of Rs 2/- will be applicable on this edition for all locations except Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Lucknow
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is gearing up to make its presence felt in Uttar Pradesh civic polls likely to be held in November.
The leadership has decided to focus on districts where they think the party is on a sound footing.
After much brainstorming, the central and state leaderships have zeroed in on municipal corporations of nine big cities.
They are Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Meerut, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Allahabad and Aligarh.
Here, the party will contest on all wards in these cities and also for the post of mayors. Among small towns, Ambedkar Nagar and Faizabad districts are also in AAP’s list.
Party’s national spokesperson Sanjay Singh will be in Lucknow on September 15 to preside over worker’s convention.
Singh, who is also incharge of Uttar Pradesh, would also review party’s preparations for civic polls. The state unit of the AAP is busy finalizing names of candidates in cities where the party has already decided to contest civic polls. The process is likely to be over by the end of this month.
“We have sought internal report from districts to gauge party’ s position. Depending upon feedback, we will finalize names of districts from where we will field candidates,” said Vaibhav Maheshwari, state spokesperson, AAP. “These districts will be in addition to nine municipal corporations from where the AAP has decided to field its candidates,” said Maheshwari.
The focus, however, will be on Lucknow and Varanasi.
“Despite being PM’s seat, Varanasi has witnessed no development in the past three years even when most of the MLAs and corporators are from BJP. Same is the case with Lucknow, which is represented by home minister Rajnath Singh,” Maheshwari said. Elections for 14 municipal corporations, nagar palika parishads and nagar panchayats in Uttar Pradesh are all set to witness multi-cornered contest. Ruling BJP is expected face stiff competition from Samajwadi Party, BSP, Congress and AAP.
Unlike previous civic polls, the Samajwadi Party has decided to contest 2017 civic polls on party symbol cycle.
The AAP took RTI route to expose rampant corruption in the Lucknow Municipal Corporation after the civic body blocked all its efforts to get to the root of the corruption. In August last, the party had filed 330 RTI applications with the public information officer (PIO) of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation seeking details of various projects and funds allocated.
