Class 10 student kidnapped for ₹50 lakh, killed

MEERUT: A Class 10 student was kidnapped while he was returning from school and shot dead by criminals in the forest area near Nanglasahu village here on Monday when his family could not pay the ransom amount, police said.

Senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Manzil Saini raided the houses of a few suspects in the village but they were found to be absconding.

Crime branch of the police has also been roped in for investigat­ion.

Shiva Poswal, 16, a resident of Navipur village in Inchauli area, was a student of class 10 at Saraswati Inter College in Kila Parikshatg­arh.

He left for his school on Mona day morning and when he did not return till 5 pm, his sister Shikha called him up on his mobile phone.

The call was taken by a stranger who demanded Rs 50 lakh ransom for Shiva’s release and warned the family against informing the police.

Shiva’s father Ranveer Singh, a farmer with a small land holding, was unable to arrange such big amount and reported the matter to Bhawanpur police.

The family alleged the police did not pay heed to their complaint.

Meanwhile, a villager informed the family that he had seen Shiva in the forest area of Nanglasahu.

The villagers found an injured Shiva in a sugarcane field. The criminals had shot him in the waist.

He was rushed to a private hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.

The body was sent for postmortem examinatio­n. Irate villagers blocked Garh Road outside the medical college demanding immediate arrest of the criminals.

The SSP said investigat­ion was on in the case and the culprits would be arrested soon.
