LUCKNOW: The city police claimed to have foiled a dacoity bid at a city trader’s house in yet another encounter with a gang of five dreaded criminals of Farrukhabad here on Wednesday.
Two accused suffered bullet injuries in their legs reportedly during retaliatory firing by police near Kukrail Bandha in Ghazipur police area while three others were arrested from the spot. The injured accused are undergoing treatment at KGMU’s trauma centre in police custody.
SSP Lucknow, Deepak Kumar said those arrested were identified as Anwar, Rehan Qureshi, Sadiq Hussain, Tehseeb and Vikas Dubey. He said they had planned to commit robbery at B-Block Indira Nagar, the residence of a wholesale grocery trader, Pradeep Bansal. He said the assailants were tipped off about cash and valuables worth several crores present at the trader’s house.
The SSP said one Prince alias Chottu and the trader’s servant Basant has also been detained for grilling. He said probe revealed that Prince, who is son of a mason working at the house of the trader’s relative, is friend of one of the five robbers, Sadiq, who also had worked in the city for some time. He said Prince extracted information about the trader’s house and his family members and passed it on to Sadiq and his other accomplices.
He said Prince’s involvement is confirmed in the criminal conspiracy but Basant’s involvement is yet to be confirmed as initial quizzing suggested that he unknowingly leaked out the trader’s information to him.
Kumar said five assailants had come from their native places Farrukhabad in a car and were heading towards the trader’s house when the police team had an encounter with the gang. He said the police team intercepted the assailants’ car near Kukrail Bandha when they tried to flee after spotting police vehicles chasing them. The two assailants, Anwar and Rehan Qureshi suffered bullet wound in their legs during retaliatory firing by police team. He said five weapons including two pistols and three country-made firearms have been recovered from them. He said the liquor diazepam used to tranquilise people, and instruments used to break house locks have also been recovered from their possession.
