In what was being dubbed as suicide has now turned out to be a case of murder committed in a fit of rage by a subordinate constable after the sub inspector allegedly made indecent remark about his wife.

The constable, who had a criminal past, has been arrested by Mainpuri police and sent to jail.

SI Radha Raman, 42, was found hanging in the bathroom of his room at Mainpuri Police Lines on September 8.

A cop with a chequered career record, he was posted at police lines at the time of incident but prior to it he was placed under suspension for sending vulgar messages to a woman.

Earlier too he was caught in a controversy after a video where he was seen showering money on dance girls went viral. He was suspended back then too.

In yet another incident, his identity card was found in a vehicle seized for carrying illegal liquor.

The controversies notwithstanding, his family members believed he was murdered.

Under their pressure, SP Mainpuri Rajesh D ordered a probe and got a case registered against unidentified persons for murder of sub inspector on complaint by his brother.

During the probe, the investigating team found one constable Satya Prakash Yadav absent from his posting at Kanpur Dehat since July 4.

He was arrested when he came to Mainpuri to meet his brother, who is in jail for keeping countrymade pistol.

Initially, he kept on misleading the police during interrogation and denied meeting the deceased.

However, the constables at Mainpuri Police Lines identified Yadav and it later turned out that he was known to Radha Raman as they have worked together in Kanpur.

On the night when Radha Raman was found dead, it transpired that they both had drinks and then something went wrong between the two and Yadav strangulated Raman to death by a service belt and then hanged him in bathroom to make it look a case of suicide.

On Wednesday, the accused broke down during investigation and blamed Raman for making indecent comments about his wife.

SP Mainpuri said the accused had been sent to jail and information has been shared with Kanpur Dehat where he was posted last. He had worked till July 4, before turning absent from duties for last two month.

The accused too had a criminal past and had faced a departmental inquiry leading to his demotion to a salary on which he was hired as constable.
