UPPSC recruits 2,065 doctors for govt hospitals
The UP Public Service Commission on Wednesday released the list of the 2,065 doctors recruited for appointment to government hospitals.
These appointments are expected to give respite to patients in government hospitals which have been under the scanner after a spate of deaths at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur and the district hospital in Farrukhabad.
Health minister Siddharth Nath Singh said the newly recruited doctors will be posted in government hospitals across the state.
He said 7,328 posts of government doctors were vacant due to a ban on recruitment by previous governments.
A doctors’ crisis had hit government hospitals in various districts, he said.
Filling these vacancies was the state government’s top priority, he said.
With better coordination with the Public Service Commission, the state government has expedited the recruitment procedure.
The state government has sent a proposal for filling 5,640 vacant posts of government doctors. HT had highlighted doctors’ crisis in government hospitals and collapse of health services. The state government had announced it would fill the vacant posts through recruitment by UP Public Service Commission, walk-in-interviews and one-year extension in service of the retired doctors.
The Provincial Medical Services Association (PMSA) had urged the state government to prepare a long-term plan to fill the vacancies and improve health services in government hospitals.
