VHP to safeguard Hindu girls from ‘love jehad’

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has said it will establish ‘suraksha chowkis’ (security posts) at five spots during the ‘Janakpuri Festival’ in Agra for the security of Hindu girls so that they do not fall prey to ‘love jehad’.

Bajrang Dal activists having special identity cards would be assisting in security arrangements so that no “anti-social activity” takes place during four-day festival beginning Saturday.

Agra is set to host the annual ‘Janakpuri Festival’ from September 16 to 19. The venue this time is Awas Vikas Colony, which is being decorated to host the ‘baarat’ of Ram, which would reach Janakpuri on Sunday morning. The ‘baarat’ stays for two days and returns after the marriage of ‘Ram’ and ‘Sita’ and the occasion is marked with much fanfare every year.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the city by the police and the administration.

But the VHP has its own plans. In this regard, regional organisation secretary of VHP Manoj Kumar addressed workers on Tuesday.

VHP city unit chief Deepak Agarwal informed that the model ‘Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple’ would be a part of the tableau exhibited during ‘Ram Baarat’, which would travel through the city area on Saturday night before reaching Janakpuri the next day.

Manoj Kumar informed that Bajrang Dal activists would be deployed for security arrangements for ‘Ram Baarat’ and Janakpuri and would prevent entry of ‘anti-social’ elements.

“Five posts from the security point of view will be created during Janakpuri Mahotsav and their task would be to safeguard ‘behan-betis’ of the Hindu community so that they do not fall prey to ‘love-jehad,” stated Kumar.
