BJP takes ‘Swachh’ message to schoolkids
VARANASI: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kashi region unit on Saturday apprised students of government-run primary schools in Varanasi about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cleanliness mission ahead of his birthday on Sunday.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will also participate in events to mark the birthday celebrations in Varanasi, the PM’s Lok Sabha constituency.The CM will distribute certificates to 1400 safai mitras, underlining their importance in the cleanliness mission. Urban development minister Suresh Khanna administered a cleanliness oath to 760 village heads, Varanasi MLAs and officials here on Saturday.
The Kashi region BJP president Laxman Acharya told HT, “We have decided to celebrate PM Modi’s birthday in a grand manner. As part of the celebrations, we decided to make children aware of PM Modi’s Swachh Bharat mission. We visited schools and distributed sweets, erasers and pencils among the students.”
“Modi ji is the prime minister. Therefore, children should know about him,” Acharya said, adding that BJP leaders sought permission from headmasters for the brief event before visiting the schools. After due approval by the head masters, the activity was carried out in 130 government schools, he added.
Acharya said some of the children were already aware of the ongoing cleanliness campaign.
The children offered sweets to pictures of Modi kept in these schools. Suresh Gupta, a BJP leader, said, “We celebrated Modiji’s birthday with children at the Jagatganj primary school. We gave them sweets, erasers and pencils. We also apprised them of Swachhta Hi Seva Hai campign.”
The children were told about the do’s and don’ts that everyone should follow to maintain cleanliness, he added.
Sixty-seven intersections across the city have been decorated in the colours of the BJP flag. The party workers will carry out cleanliness in their respective areas for two hours on Sunday.
