Air India flight hits parked truck after landing in Delhi

An Air India aircraft hit a parked ground cooling unit (GCU) truck just after landing on the runway at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The incident took place at 9.41pm on Friday. The GCU is ground support equipment, which supplies cold air or hot air into a parked aircraft to maintain comfortable temperatures.

Officials confirmed outboard engine of flight AI820 from Vadodara hit a parked GCU at bay C33.

The airline has constituted a two-member high-level committee to investigate the incident. “The committee will submit the report within seven days,” said a spokesperson of Air India.

With flight traffic at Delhi airport growing by 20% each year, the number of such incidents, including planes straying into each other’s paths — on the runway or mid-air has increased too.
