Now, women gardeners to maintain Sarojini Naidu Park
Now, three women gardeners will look after the Sarojini Naidu Park opposite the district magistrate’s residence.
FICCI- FLO Lucknow Kanpur Chapter has adopted the park and carried out plantation drive to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on Sunday.
The organisation had given a call for ‘Go Green Before Green Goes,’ said Archana Khaitan and Renuka Tandon of FICCI FLO . Sudhir Halwasiya joined the members in planting trees.
FICCI_FLO also plans to involve prominent citizens, corporate, schools and colleges in the endeavour and proposes to make this initiative a permanent feature in its annual calendar.
“Each year 15.3 billion trees are chopped down, resulting in fall of the global tree count by 46% since the beginning of human civilization 12,000 years ago. Human activity has resulted in dwindling forest cover,” said Madhuri Halwasiya, secretary of the organisation.
FLO Lucknow Kanpur chapter chair Archana Khaitan expressed concern over global warming and extinction of biological species. Senior vice chair Renuka Tandon said, “We need a huge conservation push and a wave of forest re-growth.”
FLO Lucknow Kanpur Chapter has initiated awareness programme about this mass destruction and attempted to educate the populace in ways to help develop a greener and healthier planet. “This is an ongoing process that all needs to be adopted to prevent devastating consequences,” said secretary Madhuri Halwasiya.
FLO is the women wing of FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) the apex body of industry and commerce in India. The primary objective of FLO is to promote entrepreneurship and professional excellence in women.
Over the last 31 years, FLO has grown to become the most prestigious pan India women's business organisation with 13 chapters and nearly 4,000 members .
In UP, the Lucknow-Kanpur Chapter has worked to empower women through skilling, enhancing livelihood, nurturing entrepreneurs, creating national and international market linkages and also working in health and sanitation projects in villages as well as in the city.
