PGI to have new emergency ward, replace old lifts
The Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences will convert its old OPD area into a new emergency ward.
Presently the PGI’s emergency ward has just 30 beds and so many patients are refused admission.
A hepatobiliary and liver transplant centre would be constructed soon, along with flats for married nurses .
Central air-conditioning would be upgraded and new lifts would replace the old ones .
Fire fighting system in the entire hospital complex would also be upgraded
Speaking during the 22nnd convocation ceremony of the institute on Saturday, director SGPGIMS professor Rakesh Kapoor said, “PGI will now concentrate on changing all its lifts in the old building and it will also improve infrastructure for patients by adding advanced equipments like robots for starting robotic surgery.”
He said the load of patients on the hospital was increasing at the rate of 6.1 % every year.
This year 4,10,173 patients were followed up in the outpatients clinics, while 49,930 patients were admitted for care on total bed strength of 987 beds, apportioned to different specialties. This year, over 12,000 major surgical procedures were performed.
For the financial year 2017-18, PGI has Rs 30 crore for construction of ongoing projects and Rs.15 crore for purchase of medical equipment.
An additional grant of Rs 50 crore has been allotted to trauma centre, out of which R12.50 crore is for construction activities, Rs.12.50 crore for medical equipment, Rs 12.50 crore for pay & allowances and Rs.12.50 crore for other expenses.
Professor Rajkumar, who conceptualised the trauma centre, has been appointed in charge of the project .
