Over a thousand corporate houses, 300 colleges and 1,200 schools from 200 cities and villages are likely to take part in the ninth edition of Daan Utsav challenge (joy of giving week) from October 2-8.
The event includes Sewa Mela for seven days in seven villages and urban slum areas.
“Medical camps will be organised to create awareness on HIV/AIDS, counselling for skill development followed by vocational training, health and hygiene awareness and sanitation,” said Daan Utsav volunteer Jyotsna Kaur Habibullah.
A conference will be held with the objective to promote inclusiveness, cross-cultural sharing and a feeling of oneness among diverse groups with children from different backgrounds learning from each other through workshop and presentation.
Awareness drive about menstruation and distribution of re-usable cloth pads to underprivileged girls, inclusive cricket match bringing together youth from all sections, counselling for vocational training, health and nutrition drive in gram sabhas, tree plantation, and clean up and green up drive will also be organised.
Launched in 2009, the festival is celebrated every year – commencing on Gandhi Jayanti. From auto-rickshaw drivers to CEOs, schoolchildren to celebrities, homemakers to opinion leaders and media persons attend the programme.
